CranioSacral Therapy was established by an osteopathic physician, John Upledger, who first observed the rhythmic motion of the craniosacral system during neck surgery. As the clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics at Michigan State University, he supervised numerous scientific studies from 1975 to 1983, during which he was able to scientifically confirm cranial bone motion. This research led to the development of CranioSacral Therapy.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle method of assessing the function of the system of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that envelop the brain and spinal cord. Using a light touch (no greater than 5 grams or about the weight of a nickel), practitioners are able to remove restrictions in the craniosacral system, improving the function of the central nervous system and creating a greater sense of well-being. Patients find craniosacral work deeply relaxing, restorative and effective.
